USPS Suspends Some Florida Sites Ahead of Hurricane

As Hurricane Milton draws closer to landfall, the U.S. Postal Service is temporarily closing facilities in the storm’s path.

The closure applies to facilities in the 335, 336, 337, 338, 339, 341, 342 and 346 zip codes, according to an Oct. 8 press release. No alternate sites have been prepared yet, the release also notes.

Suppliers not in those areas but who are concerned and looking for guidance “should work with the local logistics folks who are directing their day-to-day activities,” USPS leadership told NSRMCA.

Milton is expected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast late Oct. 9 as a Category 3 storm, according to the Associated Press (AP), with the storm forecasted to travel through Central Florida to the Atlantic Ocean. As much as 18 inches of rain is projected, AP said.
