USPS Signs Union Deal on S&DC Transportation
Contract deliveries either to or from Sorting & Delivery Centers (S&DC) could be subject to insourcing under an accord between USPS and a union.
A June 20 memorandum of understanding between the Postal Service and the American Postal Workers Union zeroes in on S&DC contract deliveries.
“Bulk quantities of mail transported between mail processing facilities and S&DCs will be performed by Postal Vehicle Service [PVS] employees unless such work was previously subcontracted,” the document states.
Additionally, bulk mail going between S&DCs and retail units or box sections “that letter carriers were removed from will be performed by PVS employees.” Lastly, the agreement notes that USPS and the union “will continue to meet for the purpose of discussing bringing subcontracted PVS work ‘in house.’”
Between 400-500 S&DCs are currently projected to be created, according to an APWU statement on the matter.
The union accord also covers non-contracting topics, such as retail postal operations and staffing levels.
NSRMCA is reaching out to USPS to learn more details about this accord.
