USPS Proposes Change to Mail Flat Preparation
February 05, 2025
USPS is considering altering the standards of some mail flat preparation, which may reduce bundle volume.
If implemented, 5-digit, 3-digit and ADC preparation would be optional for first-class mail and marketing mail flats, according to a Feb. 5 proposed rule in the Federal Register. Currently, that type of pre-sorting is required for mailers.
USPS believes this change “will encourage mailers to create full flat trays of mail and will reduce the volume of bundles entered into the mailstream,” the notice read.
The rule is planned to take effect May 1, according to the notice.
