USPS: Insourcing Caused Some Delivery Delays
December 07, 2023
On-time mail delivery was negatively affected by insourcing at certain surface transfer centers (STC) recently, according to the U.S. Postal Service.
Between Oct. 1 and Nov. 24, on-time delivery dipped for first-class, marketing and periodicals mail, according to a Dec. 4 USPS release. The reductions were compared to the prior quarter.
The release doesn’t specify the number of affected STCs but does note that the “temporary operational disruptions during these transitions ... have been resolved.”
USPS states another contributing factor to the lower numbers was a two-week shutdown at a St. Louis facility due to mercury leaking from an illegally shipped package.
