USPS Forms Environmental Council
The U.S. Postal Service has created a high-level environmental council to develop its green strategy for the next decade.
The agency is investing over $16 million to roll out four infrastructure programs, according to a March 29 release. The programs involve:
Improvements to the processing facility network
Improvements to transportation operations
Improvements to the delivery unit network
Acquiring and rolling out more than 100,000 vehicles over four years
The council will also look over environmental programs already in place to see if they’re worth maintaining, while looking to add more initiatives in the future.
Postmaster Louis DeJoy will chair the Environmental Council, with several other USPS higher-ups being council members, including:
Kelly Abney, chief logistics officer and executive VP
Peter Pastre, VP of government relations and public policy
Judy de Torok, VP of corporate affairs
Ron Jarriel, VP of fleet management and electrification strategy
Additional members will be added, according to the release.
Other USPS personnel that will work with the council include Jennifer Beiro-Reveille, senior director of environmental affairs and corporate sustainability; Gregory White, executive manager of strategic initiatives; and Victoria Stephens, director of next-generation delivery vehicles.
“Once our major strategies are underway, and the [postmaster general] gains confidence in their scale and momentum, we will evaluate and assess the ongoing role of the environmental council to ensure the long-term future of our environmental strategy,” the release reads.
