USPS: Dog Attacks on Carriers Rose in 2024

Dog attacks on mail carriers ticked up in 2024, with more than 6,000 incidents reported, according to USPS figures. That’s a slight increase from 2023’s statistics of 5,800 incidents.

USPS listed cities and states with the highest rate of dog attacks, with the results largely unchanged from the 2023 report. The top four cities for dog bites in 2024 — Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and St. Louis — are the same as 2023, although the number of incidents reported in each city increased slightly from the previous year.

Changes begin to emerge further down the list, with Cincinnati coming in at number 5 for 2024, rising three places from its eighth place position in 2023. It unseated Cleveland — 2023’s fifth place — which fell to eighth place this year.
