USPS Compiling Report on Suppliers’ Finances for Some Unknown Purpose
The Postal Service is demanding financial records from dozens of its largest contractors for an unknown purpose.
In the past week, the NSRMCA has heard from numerous PNT and LDT contractors complaining that the Postal Service is demanding some or all of the following information:
- The total revenue generated with USPS contracts in the past six to 12 months
- Non-USPS sources of income
- General financial information
Suppliers weren’t given a reason for the order, but the NSRMCA has learned that the information is being incorporated into a report.
It is unknown if this effort is related to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s declaration in May that carriers should diversify their sources of income, rather than being solely dependent on USPS contracts.
In many cases, contractors were given only a day or two to comply with USPS’ records demand.
The NSRMCA is concerned by the Postal Service’s actions and views them as an unnecessary intrusion on contractors’ independence. The organization has reached out to the Postal Service for an explanation and will work to keep this from becoming an industry-wide concern.
