Used Class 8 Truck Market Declines In July

Sales of used Class 8 trucks fell month-over-month in July, according to one report, although the drop wasn’t unexpected.

Compared to June, sales sank by 8 percent, according to an ACT Research summary. Metrics were down across the board in that timeframe, with the average price falling 5 percent, average miles dipping 2 percent and the average age descending 1 percent.

Steve Tam, ACT Research vice president, noted that the decline was not out of the ordinary.

“Sales usually dip a percentage point or two in July, so the decrease was in line with but greater than expectations,” stated Tam.

When compared to July 2022, sales are up 19 percent, with the average price being a whopping 30 percent lower. In that same span, average miles stayed the same and the average age ticked down 3 percent.
