Used Class 8 Truck Market Bounces Back in August

After a down July, sales of used Class 8 trucks rebounded in August, according to one report.

Month-over-month, sales were up 12 percent, according to an ACT Research analysis. The other metrics stayed relatively static in that timeframe: average vehicle price and age stayed the same, while average miles fell 1 percent.

Steve Tam, ACT vice president, said this jump wasn’t unexpected as August is seasonally “the second-best sales month of the year, exceeded only by October.”

“Combined, the total market volume swelled [15 percent month over month] in August,” Tam stated.

When compared to August 2022, the average price was down a mammoth 26 percent. Average vehicle miles and age each dipped by 4 percent, while units sold increased 3 percent.
