Used Class 8 Sales Rise in October
The used Class 8 truck market improved in October, with sales rising 7 percent over September, according to one report.
Year-over-year sales are also up, rising to 6 percent, according to a Nov. 26 ACT Research report. The prices of those trucks stayed mostly the same, dropping by 0.4 percent from the prior month. Year over year, however, sales are down 13 percent.
“Prices are expected to remain stable at or around the current level for the next couple of months before transitioning to y/y growth in early 2025,” stated Steve Tam, ACT vice president.
Tam also noted that “October is typically the third-best sales month of the year, running more than 8 percent above average” as a way of explaining the increase.
Compared to September 2024, average mileage on used trucks is down 3 percent. But year over year, average mileage is basically flat. For the average vehicle age, no growth or decline was seen compared to last month, while a 1 percent drop was observed compared to last year.
