Used Class 8 Sales Plummet In April
Sales of used Class 8 trucks fell off a cliff from March to April, according to a new report.
The number of trucks sold sank 23 percent month over month, as reported in a State of the Industry report from ACT Research.
In that same span, the average price and miles for used trucks fell by 8 percent and 1 percent, respectively. The average age of vehicles sold rose 3 percent.
Steve Tam, ACT vice president, notes that while sales normally fall in April, this decline was greater than expected.
“With inventory on the rise, and more importantly, not a limiting factor for sales, the logical conclusion is that demand is softening,” Tam stated.
Compared to April 2022, sales fell 16 percent, while the average price dropped a whopping 31 percent. The average mileage dipped 2 percent, while the average age stayed the same.
