U.S. Diesel Prices Dip Slightly

Diesel prices have decreased nationwide for two weeks in a row, but remain stubbornly high.

Prices at the pump dropped by 4.2 cents per gallon during the week of May 17-23, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That follows a decrease of 1 cent per gallon the previous week.

Despite this, the average price of $5.571 per gallon is $2.318 more than this time last year. Most regions saw a price decrease over the past week. The Gulf Coast had the biggest drop at nearly 8 cents per gallon. That region has the lowest diesel prices in the nation at $5.216 per gallon.

However, three regions still experienced price increases: diesel prices rose 3 cents in the Rocky Mountains, 2.5 cents in California, and .6 cents on the West Coast overall.

At $6.502 per gallon, California continues to have the highest diesel prices in the country.
