Union: 16 New S&DCs Coming in September

USPS has selected 16 more locations for Sorting and Delivery Centers (S&DCs) slated to open in early September, according to an affiliated union.

According to a list distributed Feb. 14 by the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), the following sites will begin operating as S&DCs on Sept. 7:

  • High Point, North Carolina
  • Severna Park, Maryland
  • Southern Connecticut, Connecticut
  • Vineland, New Jersey
  • Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania
  • York East, Pennsylvania
  • Carbondale, Illinois
  • Oakland Park, Ohio
  • La Crosse, Wisconsin
  • Washington (Dayton area), Ohio
  • Shawnee Mission, Kansas
  • Acworth, Georgia
  • Columbus, Georgia
  • Lake Charles, Louisiana
  • Sarasota, Florida
  • Olympia, Washington

Curiously, six of these S&DCs have no “spoke” locations connected to them, according to the letter, which was distributed by APWU’s Industrial Relations Director Charlie Cash. The High Point, Vineland, Wilkes Barre, Oakland Park, La Crosse and Sarasota centers will all be spoke-less.

According to the notice, USPS notified the union of the 16 new S&DCs on Feb. 9. The website 21st Century Postal Worker, which has ties to the union, first reported the story.
