Trucking Jobs Leap in March

Just under 10,000 jobs were added to the trucking industry in March, according to federal statistics.
After the increase of 9,600, the total number of industry jobs rose to 1.53 million, according to an April 4 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report. That is the highest recorded number of trucking jobs since March 2024.
Industry jobs are down by just over 5,000 year-over-year. Looking at the transportation sector as a whole, employment rose by 23,000 in March, “about double the prior 12-month average gain of 12,000,” according to the report.
The nationwide unemployment rate didn’t change much from last month, staying around 4.2 percent, according to BLS, with total nonfarm payroll employment jumping up 228,000 jobs.
