Trucking Jobs Fall for Second Straight Month
The trucking industry shed 2,700 jobs in June, marking the second month of declines in a row, federal statistics show.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded 1.520 million seasonally adjusted truck transportation jobs in June, a drop from May’s 1.523 million, according to a July 3 report. May’s figures already represented a contraction of 1,700 jobs from April’s 1.525 million trucking positions.
For the broader sector, which covers all forms of transportation and warehousing, the report paints a far rosier picture. 7,500 jobs were added in June, raising the sector-wide total to 6.746 million jobs.
Total non-farm employment figures rose 147,000 in June, while the national unemployment rate hovered at 4.1%, little changed from the previous month.
