Trucking Jobs Dip Slightly

The trucking industry shed just under 2,000 jobs in February, federal statistics show.

The finding — from a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statics (BLS) report March 7 — showed roughly 1.515 million seasonally adjusted jobs in the industry, a slight dip from January’s 1.517 million jobs. February’s results are up approximately 11,000 year over year, the data show.

For the wider transportation/warehousing sector, BLS reported a gain of 17,800 jobs in February. This was down 900 from January’s employment numbers. Much of February’s growth was attributed to gains among couriers/messengers and in air transportation.

Total nonfarm payroll employment climbed 151,000 in February, which trails the prior 12 months’ average gain of 168,000 jobs.
