Trucking Groups Call for Reversal of Emissions Rules

Over 100 trucking interest groups are asking the president to pull back on planned truck emission regulations.

Specifically, the groups’ July 11 letter takes aim at the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed heavy-duty vehicle emissions standards, starting with model year 2027.

“EPA’s proposals inhibit the marketplace from identifying the most efficient, lowest cost opportunities to reduce GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions from vehicles and greatly restrict consumer choice,” reads the letter. “We are concerned that such a prescriptive policy is not in the best interest of the consumer or of U.S. energy and economic security.”

The groups, which hail from 44 states, asked the EPA to evaluate other greenhouse gas emission reduction options while the technology behind zero-emission vehicles continues to advance.

Among the signatories are national organizations — such as the Truck Renting and Leasing Association and the American Highway Users Alliance — as well as state-level branches of numerous organizations, including the Florida Trucking Association and the Colorado Oil & Gas Association.
