Thousands of Drivers’ Medical Certificates Voided
Over 15,000 truck drivers have had their medical examiner’s certificate (MEC) revoked due to regulators’ concerns about the approving physicians.
All of these MECs were issued by Drs. Jenny Le and Dustin Mai, both chiropractors, between March 2023 and March 2025, according to an April 15 release from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
The 15,225 affected drivers can continue to drive but must get a new MEC by May 10. Drivers who don’t get a new certificate by that date run the risk of having their commercial driver’s license downgraded.
“Removing non-compliant medical examiners from the National Registry is a necessary step to maintain the integrity of the medical certification process and ensure that only qualified, properly trained professionals are certifying the physical qualifications of commercial motor vehicle drivers,” stated Jesse Elison, FMCSA chief counsel.
A multi-agency investigation inquired into the two doctors’ practices due to “concerns about the high volume of physical qualification examinations conducted.”
