Tens of Thousands of Freightliner Trucks Recalled

Daimler Trucks is recalling around 64,000 vehicles due to a defect that could affect steering control.

The issue involves a drag link taper joint at the steering arm that might loosen over time and lead to the steering issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report.

The affected trucks are the 2019-2021 models of the Freightliner 108SD, Freightliner 114SD, Freightliner 122SD, Freightliner Columbia, Freightliner Coronado, Freightliner Business Class M2 and Freightliner Cascadia.

Daimler initially issued a recall in September 2021 over the issue for trucks manufactured at a different location. When that recall was put out, the company also screened this population of trucks.

The report noted that an estimated 1 percent of the 60,604 trucks recalled have the issue, and the remedy will involve inspecting the joint and testing its torque.
