Survey: Fuel Prices Top Concern in Trucking Industry
A newly released survey shows that the cost of fuel is the leading concern among truckers.
Driver shortage was the second-ranked issue, followed by lack of truck parking, according to an American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) study.
Fuel prices overtook the driver shortage issue this year, which had been the top-ranked concern for the previous five years.
The top five concerns were rounded out by driver compensation and the economy. More than 4,200 trucking industry stakeholders participated in the survey, according to ATRI.
“ATRI’s list is a true reflection of what it was like to be a trucker this year,” said ATA Chairman Harold A. Sumerford Jr. “High fuel prices and finding drivers were two of our industry’s biggest challenges – challenges made more difficult by the economy and the continued lack of truck parking.”
