Survey: Fewer Women Drivers, Board Members
Women are not as well represented in the trucking industry as in previous years, according to a new survey.
There are fewer women operating either behind the wheel or in the board room than there were a year ago, according to a report from Women in Trucking.
The group recently released the results of its 2024-2025 Women in Trucking Index. The Oct. 21 report — culled from 350 surveys of gender diversity data between August and May — found that gender diversity is decreasing in some parts of the industry.
For example, the survey shows that roughly 9.5 percent of truck drivers are female; this is a 2.5 percent drop from the previous year. Similarly, the number of women serving on the board of directors for transportation companies also slid 2.5 percent; dropping from 32 percent in 2023 to 29.5 percent this year.
The report found that most women working in the industry are involved in either human resources (74.5 percent), dispatch (38.5 percent) or in a safety capacity (also 38.5 percent).
Women in the industry were less likely to work as a technician (4 percent), in leadership positions (34.5 percent) or in the C-suite (28 percent).
