Report: Used Class 8 Truck Sales Increase in August
Retail volume for used Class 8 trucks saw a sizeable jump in August after a relatively flat July.
Sales were up 29 percent month-over-month, according to data published by ACT Research on Sept. 27. The same data also showed a six percent month-over-month decline in average sales price.
There was also a 4 percent increase month-over-month in average miles, and a 1 percent increase in age. ACT Research’s summary of the report did not provide any concrete sales numbers.
Bigger picture, average price, miles and age are all up year-over-year and year-to-date, ACT said. Prices have seen a 64 percent increase year-to-date in August.
“Used truck sales usually see a nice bump between July and August, but the level of sales exceeded expectations,” stated Steve Tam, vice president at ACT.
Tam said the likely catalyst for the August bump was new truck production, noting sales are “likely to return to trend” in September.
