Report: Over Half of Diesel Trucks On Road Near-Zero Emissions

Around 57 percent of Class 3-8 commercial diesel trucks on the road in 2022 utilize near-zero emissions technology, according to one report.

That’s a 10.2 percent increase from 2021, the Diesel Technology Forum stated. Indiana has the highest percentage of these trucks, with 73.2 percent of registered trucks in the state sporting near-zero emission technology.

Other regions with high percentages include Utah at 66.2 percent; Pennsylvania with 66 percent; Washington, D.C., at 65.4 percent; and Texas with 63.6 percent.

Illinois is the clubhouse leader in increased adoption of these trucks, with the state’s near-zero emission fleet jumping 4.6 percent year-over-year, the report stated.

The report classifies near-zero emission trucks as “advanced diesel technology manufactured in the 2010 and later model years.”
