Report: Class 8 Truck Market Remains Strong in October

A September surge in Class 8 truck purchases continued into a positive October, according to one report.

Orders totaled 30,600 units during the month, according to a Nov. 21 report from ACT Research.

The report — State of the Industry: NA Classes 5-8 — specifically noted the “ongoing strength in the vocational market,” suggesting “the potential for vocational market queueing.”

“With well-supported end markets and technology-forcing regulations on the horizon, vocational truck buyers not only have a willingness to get a head start on refreshing their fleet but a clear ability as the ~$2 trillion in stimulus … continues to be deployed,” stated Kenny Vieth, ACT president and senior analyst.

Vieth did note a year-over-year downtick in tractor orders by 7.3 percent, attributing the fall to a weak for-hire market.
