Pump Prices Soar 20 Cents Nationally
Diesel prices have spiked across the country this week, sending the national average up 20 cents.
Amid conflict in the oil-rich Middle East, the national average for diesel climbed 20.4 cents to $3.775 per gallon, according to data from the Energy Information Association (EIA). The Midwest was hit the hardest, with prices rising an eye-watering 24 cents to $3.777 a gallon.
The Gulf Coast was just slightly behind with prices hitting $3.436, a rise of 22.4 cents. Lower Atlantic customers saw prices climb 19.3 cents to $3.725.
On the East Coast, the per-gallon price on diesel rose 16.9 cents to close at $3.79, while West Coast prices closed at $4.458, a 14.8 cent increase.
In the Rocky Mountain region, diesel now costs $3.689, a 14.1-cent increase, while New England was the least-affected region; prices climbed 7.2 cents to $3.967 a gallon.
Despite diesel’s stark trajectory for the week, a year-over-year comparison shows that diesel rose less than a penny compared to the price from a year ago.
