Potholes Are a Problem Nationwide: Ranking Reveals Worst Offenders
Washington state is known for many things: great coffee, grunge music, gloomy weather and —according to a new report —the most pothole complaints in the country.
Recently, online insurance company QuoteWizard analyzed pothole-related Google search statistics to determine which cities and states have the most pothole complaints. Washington lead the field, followed by Indiana, while Michigan ranked third.
Washington was the only West Coast state to appear on the list, while the Midwest was represented by five pothole-suffused states. The East Coast also contributed five states, including three that appeared shockingly low on the list: Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.
Washington’s woes were illustrated by its three appearances on the individual cities list: Yakima, Spokane and Seattle all made the top five. Two Indiana cities — Lafayette and Indianapolis — both ranked in the survey, which was compiled using statistics from a range of years, dating as far back as 2004.
Potholes — the bane of all truck drivers — tend to develop more during the winter months, due to rain filling cracks in weakened asphalt.
