Postal Service Looks To Cut Special Handling Service
April 19, 2022
The Postal Service is proposing to discontinue its special handling service for fragile items this summer, a change that could make package distribution a little less onerous.
Postal officials concluded after an investigation that current operational procedures don’t support the preferential handling of fragile items, according to the proposed rule published in the Federal Register on March 20.
The Postal Service cites “the execution gaps that currently exist” with this extra service as the reason for discontinuing it.
The deadline for public comments on the proposed rule change is May 20. If finalized, the change would go into effect on July 10.
