Penn. Turnpike Toll Rates Hiked Another 5 Percent
Rates for the heavily trafficked Pennsylvania Turnpike jumped 5 percent for all vehicles on Jan. 2, according to a release from its controller.
The cost increase applies to commercial vehicles of all stripes that use either E-ZPass or PA Turnpike Toll By Plate rates for most of the turnpike, which cuts diagonally across the state. The only section spared a rate hike was the Southern Beltway portion west of Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced Dec. 30.
According to the commission, a Class-5 truck using E-ZPass will typically see its rates rise 70 cents to $13.70, whereas the same vehicle using the Toll By Plate system will usually see its toll go from $26.60 to $28 even.
The commission said the toll hike was needed “to meet escalating debt-service costs” it makes to the state. An updated list of toll rates is available on the commission’s website.
