Over Half of Diesel Trucks Employ Reduced Emissions Engines
An estimated 53 percent of all diesel-powered commercial vehicles on the road use improved engines that reduce emissions, according to one group.
The Diesel Technology Forum — a nonprofit that promotes diesel usage — reported May 10 on IHS Markit data showing that 53 percent of all commercial vehicles in the U.S. are equipped with engines to minimize emissions.
These advanced engines — which are standardized in commercial engines from model year 2010 onward — lower emissions through efficient combustion, while controlling the remaining emissions through particulate filtration and oxidation catalysts.
The data, which was harvested in December, show a 4.2 percent increase in the number of trucks using these improved engines over the previous year, the group said.
