OIG Reviewing S&DC Development Process

The Postal Service’s proposed revamp of its network is barely out of the planning stages and portions of it are already under audit by a federal watchdog.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is evaluating USPS’s “data models used to determine sites for conversion into” sorting and delivery centers (S&DC), the associated conversion costs and how those plans were shared with stakeholders, according to its website

The review began on Nov. 28, and a report of the OIG’s findings is expected in June.

The S&DCs are part of USPS’s planned consolidation of its surface transportation network, with the intended purpose of reducing “transportation and mail handling costs,” OIG stated in the notice.
