N.Y. Revives Congestion Toll, Sets Lower Fees
Trucks may soon be charged between $14.40 and $21.60 to drive through parts of Manhattan under the state’s updated plan.
The original proposal, which New York Gov. Kathy Hochul postponed indefinitely in June, called for trucks to be charged between $24 and $36. The new version is a 40 percent reduction, according to a Nov. 14 release.
Tolls will apply to all trucks entering Manhattan below 60th Street starting at midnight on Jan. 5, with small trucks paying $14.40 and large trucks paying $21.60 during the day. At night, the tolls would be 75 percent discounted, meaning $3.60 for small trucks and $5.40 for large trucks.
“By getting congestion pricing underway and fully supporting the [Metropolitan Transportation Authority] capital plan, we’ll unclog our streets, reduce pollution and deliver better public transit for millions of New Yorkers,” Hochul stated.
