N.J. Intersection Tops List of Truck Bottlenecks Again

For the seventh year in a row, an intersection in New Jersey was ranked as the worst trucking bottleneck in the country.

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) gave the dubious honor to the intersection of I-95 and SR 4 in Fort Lee, New Jersey in its Feb. 12 2025 Top Truck Bottleneck List

The rest of the top 10 was:

  • I-294 at I-290/I-88 in Chicago

  • I-45 at I-69/ US 59 in Houston

  • I-285 at I-85 (North) in Atlanta

  • I-24/I-40 at I-440 (East) in Nashville

  • I-75 at I-285 (North) in Atlanta

  • SR 60 at SR 57 in Los Angeles

  • I-71 at I-75 in Cincinnati

  • I-10 at I-45 in Houston

  • I-20 at I-285 (West) in Atlanta

Of the top 10, seven were also on the list last year.

Based on GPS tracking data from 2024, the report found that traffic conditions have continued to worsen from previous years. In the top 10 locations, average rush hour truck speeds were 29.7 mph, while the average speed nationally was 34.2 mph.

Chris Spear, American Trucking Associations president/CEO, stated that these bottlenecks add $109 billion annually to transportation costs.
