New York State Fuel Tax Has Been Suspended

Contract delivery firms that travel in or through New York State will get a break at the fuel pump.

Suspension of fuel taxes in New York went into effect Wednesday. The fuel tax holiday will last through the end of December.

The suspension applies to the state sales tax imposed on fuel, the motor fuel tax, and the metropolitan commuter transportation district sales tax imposed on gasoline and highway diesel fuel, according to a release from Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office.

Hochul originally announced the suspension in April as part of the state’s fiscal 2023 budget.

The suspension also grants county governments the option to cap the price on their applicable local sales tax rate at $4 per gallon.

The average price of diesel price in New York state on Thursday was $6.36 per gallon, according to the AAA. The average price for the state on June 2 was $6.45, while the average one week earlier was $6.49.
