New Acting FMCSA Administrator Named

The Transportation Department’s top trucking regulator has a new acting chief.

Vinn White, who currently oversees AI development at the Department of Transportation (DOT), will now head the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), according to a June 25 announcement.

White was actually appointed deputy administrator of FMCSA, but he will fill the top spot on an acting basis, according to the release. He replaces Sue Lawless, who served as acting director. She remains FMCSA’s executive director and chief safety officer.

White has been with the administration since 2021, the notice states.

“It is an honor to take on this role, and I thank Secretary [Pete] Buttigieg for his trust and confidence in my ability to lead the important work of FMCSA,” White stated in the release.
