Law Firms Charged in Allegedly Staged Truck Collisions

Federal charges have been filed against two law offices and eight individuals for supposedly staging collisions for a payday in the New Orleans area.

The defendants allegedly orchestrated crashes in order to submit fraudulent insurance claims, according to a Dec. 9 release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The 10-count indictment names Mottta Law and The King Firm, both of New Orleans.

These collisions apparently included incidents with both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers. In each case, the driver of the car would crash the vehicle and then flee, while a passenger would pretend to have been the driver and lie about what happened, the charges allege. The release says that the scheme started in 2011, with 22 total incidents.

One of the individuals has also been charged with murder for allegedly killing another participant who attempted to work with the federal government to expose the scheme, the indictment states.
