It’s Official: Steiner to be Next PMG
David Steiner has been officially named as the next postmaster general and CEO of the United State Postal Service.
His new role, which he is expected to assume in July, was announced during the USPS Board of Governors’ meeting May 9 by Chair Amber McReynolds.
“One of the most important decisions that this board will make in our tenure is the appointment of the postmaster general,” she said. “Today, I am pleased to announce that the board of governors has chosen David Steiner to be America’s 76th postmaster general and CEO.”
She added that Steiner is already undergoing the ethics and security clearance processes required for the position.
Steiner, who serves on FedEx’s board and previously ran Waste Management Inc., will replace Acting Postmaster General Doug Tulino. The previous postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, resigned in late March.
Steiner’s selection proved controversial even before it was official. In response to multiple news reports naming him as the leading candidate for the role, the National Association of Letter Carriers condemned his selection in a May 6 release. The labor union noted his connection to FedEx, saying it presents “a clear conflict of interest.”
