Inspection Blitz Places Nearly 8K Vehicles Out of Service

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual International Roadcheck event ended with around 23 percent of inspected vehicles being removed from service.

During the inspection barrage from May 14-16, 42,332 inspections occurred in the United States, according to a Sept. 24 release. Inspectors placed 7,930 out of service (OOS) until the violations found are fixed.

The most common issue was defective service brakes, which accounted for 26.5 percent of the vehicles taken OOS. The rest of the top five were tires, other brake violations, lights and cargo securement.

Additionally, 2,151 drivers were placed OOS in the U.S., with the top violation being hours of service; 845 drivers were cited for this offense. The rest of the top five were no CDL, no medical card, false logs and suspended DL/CDL.

The 23 percent OOS rate for inspected vehicles is an increase from 2023’s International Roadcheck, which removed 19.3 percent of vehicles from service.
