House Votes to Turn Back Emissions Rule
The House passed a resolution to overturn stricter emissions standards announced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in March.
The measure, which cleared the House 215-192, is intended to nullify an EPA rule that would begin phasing in tighter emissions standards for model year 2027 trucks and would be fully in place by model year 2032.
The House bill was passed generally along party lines on Sept. 20. Eight Democrats defected to vote in favor of the legislation, while one Republican voted against it.
The measure states that “Congress disapproves the rule” and the bill is intended to ensure that “such rule shall have no force or effect.”
Rep. John James (R-Mich.) introduced the joint resolution on May 1. It now moves to the Senate, which has a Democratic majority.
