Georgia Opens Its First Autonomous Truck Terminal
Kodiak Robotics and Pilot Company have teamed up to introduce Georgia’s first truckport for autonomous vehicles.
Located at a Pilot in Villa Rica, about 37 miles west of Atlanta, the self-driving trucks will both launch and land at the facility, according to a release, serving as a hub for drivers to both pick up and drop off first- and last-mile deliveries.
The trucks can also refuel at the port, as well as get worked on and inspected.
"This partnership, combined with Kodiak’s flexible technology stack, enables our scalable, asset-light approach to building our truckport network,” stated Don Burnette, Kodiak’s founder and CEO. “The freight lane between Dallas and Atlanta is critical to the nation’s supply chain and economy, and this truckport enables us to refine our operations model as we continue to grow.”
The location will be Kodiak’s eastern satellite hub; the company’s Dallas-Fort Worth location will remain the main terminal for its autonomous truck fleet.
