Former NSRMCA Executive Director John 'Skip' Maraney Has Passed

The National Star Route Mail Contractors Association (NSRMCA) regretfully announces the passing of past executive director John “Skip” Maraney.

Maraney, who served as the organization’s executive director for 52 years, died Sunday, Sept. 29, according to a family member. He had been in declining health since his retirement in April 2021, and was recently placed in hospice care.

For decades, Maraney was the face of NSRMCA, and exemplified its mission to elevate the transportation suppliers who comprise the Postal Service’s surface transportation network. Prior to joining the association in the 1970s, Maraney held various positions on Capitol Hill, where he made friends with many of the legislators whom he would later call on to advocate for NSRMCA members.

“Skip Maraney exemplified everything the association stands for,” explained Executive Director Greg Reed. “Integrity, service and a commitment to excellence. He knew how to take care of the members. His influence lingers to this day. Skip Maraney will be sorely missed by all.”

Further details regarding arrangements will be announced at a later date.
