FMCSA Warns Against Email Scam
Federal regulators are warning truckers to be on the lookout for a phishing email requesting private information.
The email purports to be from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and asks recipients to fill out a form including their social security number and USDOT PIN. In an Aug. 7 release, FMCSA said it does not ask for that information on forms. If the agency needed it, it would go through the FMCSA online portal.
The fake email also demands a response within 24 hours, which FMCSA insisted that it does not do.
FMCSA advises company not to reply to emails from either safety@fmcsa.gov or filing@fmcsa.gov, as both have been used by the phishers. If recipients send back the information, their FMCSA accounts could be compromised.
