Feds Extend Deadline to End N.Y. Congestion Pricing

A showdown between federal officials and New York’s governor over congestion pricing in Manhattan will extend into April.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated in a March 20 social media post that New York has been granted a 30-day extension after failing to end the program by March 21 as directed.

Duffy included a sharply worded warning, along with the extension. “Know that the billions of dollars the federal government sends to New York are not a blank check. Continued noncompliance will not be taken lightly,” he wrote.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has continuously said she has no plans to stop the toll, which applies to all trucks entering Manhattan below 60th Street, as she believes that decision should be at the state’s discretion.

A lawsuit was filed in federal court Feb. 19 which would nullify Duffy’s rescindment of the initiative’s approval.
