Ex-Labor Secretary Tapped for USPS Board of Governors
President Biden announced a new nominee to become a Postal Service Governor: Marty Walsh.
Currently, Walsh is the executive director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association, a position he has held since February 2023. Prior to that, he had served as Biden’s labor secretary since January 2021.
Walsh would fill one of the two open spots on the board. He is described as an advocate of workers’ rights in a Feb. 29 White House release.
If appointed, Walsh would be the 10th member of the current USPS Board of Governors and the sixth governor nominated under the current administration.
Born and raised in Boston, Walsh worked his way up the ladder as a union construction worker, according to the release, eventually becoming president of a local union and later head of the Greater Boston Building Trades Council, an umbrella group of unions. From 2013-2020, he served as the city’s mayor.
