Duffy Sworn in as Transportation Secretary

Sean Duffy is officially in charge of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and is already taking action.

Duffy was sworn in Jan. 28 as the 20th transportation secretary following a 77-22 vote in the Senate. His first act was signing a memorandum for staff to reset the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, which regulate how far passenger cars and light trucks must travel on one gallon of fuel.

This memo aligns with a Jan. 20 executive order from President Donald Trump calling for a change in energy policy.

Some in the trucking world have praised Duffy, with American Trucking Associations President Chris Spear stating that the “strong, bipartisan vote in favor of [Duffy’s] nomination is an endorsement of his qualifications and experience for this position. It also reflects his commitment to unite stakeholders around commonsense policies to make our transportation network safer and more efficient.”
