DOT Stands Up Panel Focusing on Innovation

The Transportation Department is creating a committee that will provide advice and recommendations on transportation innovation.

The Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee (TTAC) will be effective for two years after the notice’s publication in the Federal Register on July 20.

The committee is tasked with providing advice and recommendations on innovations in transportation.

Some of the listed topics included “exploring pathways to safe, secure, equitable, environmentally friendly and accessible deployments of emerging technologies,” including automation; recommending policies to grow and support the workforce; and assessing approaches that “encourage the secure exchange and sharing of transformative transportation data.”

TTAC will be made up of a maximum of 25 members appointed for up to two years, with members including “safety advocates, experts from academia/universities, representatives of organized labor, technical experts … and industry representatives,” according to the notice.

“Individuals appointed solely for their expertise will be appointed as special government employees,” the notice continues, with no single interest group constituting a majority.

A separate Federal Register notice was also published July 20 in order to solicit individuals wanting to be considered as members of TTAC.
