DOT Funding Bill Clears House Subcommittee

Legislation funding the Transportation Department advanced through a House subcommittee July 12.

The bill allocates $21.574 billion for fiscal 2024, $7.161 billion less than the department received last year, according to the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Subcommittee.

“Taken together with $79.342 billion in obligation limitation for highway trust fund programs, the bill provides $100.915 billion in total budgetary resources to improve the safety and efficiency of our nation’s transportation system,” read an accompanying background document.

Under the bill, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration would get $891.3 million under the bill. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration would receive $1.275 billion and $62.092 billion was earmarked for the Federal Highway Administration.

“I believe the bill before the subcommittee responsibly funds our most critical transportation and housing needs, which will have a positive impact in every congressional district,” said Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) during the markup.
