DOT Forms Transportation Advisory Committee
In a bid to spur trucking innovations, transportation officials have created a new advisory group.
The Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee (TTAC), announced Dec. 29 by the Department of Transportation (DOT), will “provide advice to DOT and the secretary of transportation about plans and approaches for transportation innovation,” according to a release.
The first meeting will be held Jan. 18, which will be streamed online. The committee will include 27 members from various industries and sectors, each of whom will serve two-year terms.
The release states that TTAC will focus on the following issues:
Developing “pathways to safe, secure, equitable, environmentally friendly and accessible deployments of emerging technologies;”
An integrated approach “to promote greater cross-modal integration of emerging technologies,” with a special focus on automation;
Setting policies that “encourage innovation to grow and support a safe and productive U.S. workforce, as well as foster economic competitiveness and job quality;”
Adopting approaches and frameworks to “encourage the secure exchange and sharing of transformative transportation data, including technologies and infrastructure, across the public and private sectors that can guide core policy decisions;” and
Consider ways to “identify and elevate cybersecurity solutions” while ensuring privacy across transportation systems and infrastructure.”
