Diesel Prices Take Small Dip After Week of Big Hikes

The price of diesel mostly held steady this past week after the prior week’s beefy uptick, with the national average decreasing just 3.1 cents to $5.084. 

The national average remains over $5 after a few weeks of being below that threshold, according to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest report

Every region of the country saw a miniscule decrease, with the Midwest having the largest drop — 4 cents — for an average price of $5.132. The East Coast’s average gallon price dropped 3.3 cents to $5.033. 

A gallon of diesel on the West Coast now costs $5.693 on average, after a decrease of 2.6 cents. The Gulf Coast saw a similar drop — 2.5 cents — for an average price of $4.796. 

The Rocky Mountain region had the lowest variance, only decreasing a tenth of a cent to reach an average price of $4.971. 

California continues to pay the most for diesel, with an average gallon costing $6.174. Overall, the price of diesel is $1.711 more expensive than a year ago at this time.
