Diesel Prices Skyrocket After Weeks of Decline

The national average price of diesel shot back above $5 for the week ending Oct. 10, with an increase of almost 39 cents. 

That rise placed the average at $5.224, according to an Energy Information Administration (EIA) report, with all regions of the country seeing an increased price. 

The Midwest had the largest jump — around 45 cents — leaving the region’s average price at $5.27. The West Coast had a similar rise of nearly 44 cents, leaving its average price at $5.972. 

The Gulf Coast’s average price-per-gallon is now $4.897 after a 34-cent increase, while the East Coast saw a comparable increase — 33 cents — to up the region’s average price to $5.13. 

The Rocky Mountain region’s average gallon price is now $5.199 after an almost 33-cent increase. 

From a macro lens, the price of diesel is $1.638 more expensive than a year ago.
