Diesel Prices See Hefty Increase After Weeks of Falling

Every region of the country saw an uptick in the price of diesel this past week, with the national average increasing 20 cents to $5.115. 

This is the first time the national average has been over $5 in a month, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). 

The Midwest saw the highest increase — just over 28 cents — for an average price of $5.172 a gallon. 

The Gulf Coast saw around a 20-cent increase, right in line with the national average, for a per-gallon price of $4.821, and the West Coast’s average rose around 17 cents for an average price of $5.719. 

A gallon of diesel on the East Coast now costs an average of $5.066 after a roughly 14-cent increase. The Rocky Mountain region had the lowest variance, only increasing .087 cents to reach an average price of $4.972. 

California remains the king of diesel prices, with a gallon costing $6.202. Overall, the price of diesel is $1.776 more expensive today than a year ago at this time.
